Destiny’s Choice~A Review

Destiny’s Choice by Karen Frost is the third book in the Destiny and Darkness Series, a young adult fantasy series that is really for all ages. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books, Daughter of Fire: Conspiracy of the Dark and Daughter of Fire: The Darkness Rising, so I was looking forward to reading more in this fantastical world Ms. Frost has created.

The third book is still set in the same world. A few of the characters are also from the first two stories, but this tale could be read without reading those novels. I wouldn’t recommend it, since I think you might understand the world and the overall story better if you read the books in order, but you could read this one alone.

Destiny’s Choice is full of adventure and lots of magical creatures. The main characters barely have time to breathe between the action scenes. There are wights (zombies), magicians who can shape-shift, knights, and even a dragon. It also has a lot of Dark magic. Notice I capitalized  dark.  While the first books in this series have a dark undertone to their themes, this book is a true dark fantasy. There is very little to lighten the mood in this book from the first page to the last. Because of this, I must be honest and say that this book is my least favorite of the three.

The novel is very well-written. The world building continues to be exceptionally well done in this tale. The characters (both humans and magical creatures) are well-developed and interesting. If you love a dark fantasy with nonstop action and lots of dark magic, you are going to love this book.

The overall story does not end here. I’m fairly sure there will be a fourth novel in this series. Even though this was not my favorite novel in the set, I am invested in the overall storyline, and I will be looking for the next book when it comes out.

I received an ARC from Ylva Publishing for an honest review
